The speech therapists at Future Foundations Academy (FFA) provide the highest level of service in individual and integrated sessions. The FFA speech department is committed to individualizing students’ communication needs in and out of the classroom as well as during Community-Based Instruction (CBI) and Structured Learning Experiences (SLE). The speech therapists work very closely with the teacher, case manager, administrators, Occupational Therapists and/or Physical therapists to integrate communication across all disciplines and settings to maximize functional communication. We provide service and expertise in the following areas:

  • Augmentative/Alternative Communication (AAC): AAC high and low tech devices, PECS, Signing
  • Expressive language skills
  • Receptive language skills: Auditory training, Auditory processing, Problem Solving skills, Comprehension
  • Social-Pragmatic skills
  • Feeding therapy: Behavioral and Sensory
  • Executive functioning skills and self-regulation: Emotions, Flexibility, Memory, Planning, Impulse control, Higher order thinking
  • Fluency
  • Articulation: Speech sound disorders, Phonological disorders, Apraxia, oral-motor disorders
  • Selective Mutism

Our Speech-Language Specialists are nationally certified through American Speech Hearing Association in addition to having a certification from the State of New Jersey Board of Education. Furthermore, the therapists are trained and utilize a variety of research-based intervention, method and strategies including:

  • Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA)
  • Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
  • Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP)
  • Aided Language Input (AAC Modeling)
  • Video modeling
  • Social peer groups
